Dr. Irina Georgieva serves as the Director of Music Ministries at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wilton, CT where she is the organist and choir director and administers The Arts at St. Matthew’s.
Irina is an Associate Professor of Conducting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she has been teaching in the Department of Composition within the Professional Writing Division since 2014. She teaches beginning and advanced conducting classes and lessons, with a focus on choral and symphonic repertoire.
Irina is also the Music Director of Cappella Cantorum MasterWorks Chorus, a large non-auditioned community chorus in the Lower Connecticut River Valley and Shoreline, which since 1970 has offered to its community two performances of choral masterpieces per season.
Throughout her career, Irina has led numerous choirs and orchestras, including the Sage Chapel Choir at Cornell University, the University of Rochester’s Chamber Singers, Men’s Glee Club, and Women’s Chorus, the College Community Chorus at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the Singers at Rochester Institute of Technology, and the choirs at Sacred Heart University and the Greece Community Orchestra. Dr. Georgieva has served as a Music Director and Organist at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain, MA and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Henrietta, NY.
Irina holds an undergraduate degree in Choral Conducting from the State Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, a Master of Music in Conducting from Northwestern University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music.
