Youth Groups

Fairfield County Children’s Choir Jon Noyes, Director; – a community-based choral program made up of 300 children in grades 4 through 12  from communities in and around Fairfield County, Connecticut. The FCCC was founded in 1995 to provide children the opportunity to participate in a musical experience which is challenging, rewarding and enjoyable. The FCCC program provides instruction in vocal technique, choral technique, music literacy and the appreciation of music through the practice and performance of great choral repertoire. The FCCC has performed throughout New England as well as in New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Maryland, New Orleans, San Francisco, Oakland, Hawaii, Canada, England, Ireland, Austria and the Czech Republic. Community service events have included performances for the Bridgeport Hospital, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Fairfield & JCCS Holocaust Commemoration Ceremonies, Visiting Nurses Association, Red Cross, Americares, Operation Hope, Catholic Charities, Malta House, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Pilot House, the Junior Women’s Club, the Milford LINKS, the Westport and Monroe Arts Councils, and The South Shore Music Series.

United Choir School
Tom Brand, Founder & Artistic Director; – is a private, non-sectarian educational organization that offers musical training and performance opportunities to over 550 talented young musicians throughout Connecticut.  UCS provides instruction in music theory, sight singing, and ear training within the context of 25 auditioned choral ensembles, which together comprise the various divisions of the United Girls’ Choir and Elm City Girls’ Choir.  The School’s mission is to foster a deep commitment to the realization of personal and artistic potential and to cultivate an environment that engenders cooperation, creativity, self-discipline, and, above all, an earnest respect for all people.

The United Girls’ Choir
– Tom Brand, Founder & Artistic Director; –, founded in 2000, is the United Choir School’s largest division, and is the fastest-growing youth choral group in the region.  UGC currently has chapters based in Branford, Cheshire, Clinton, Hamden, Killingworth, Milford, North Haven and Shelton, as well as advanced, regional Chamber Singers and Consort divisions in North Haven, Madison, and Shelton.  UGC has collaborated with numerous local choral groups, including the Trinity Boys’ Choir, the Branford Chorale, the Clinton Choral Club, and the Greater New Haven Community Chorus, and has performed masterworks including Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria with professional orchestras.  The group has also performed annually in the New Haven Ballet’s production of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker at the Shubert Theater.  UGC’s Allegra Regional Girls’ Choir, a chamber ensemble composed of select choristers from all eight chapters of UGC as well as ECGC, has participated in several concert tours throughout New England. UGC’s Chamber Singers and Consort divisions have toured to several major US cities.

The Elm City Girls’ Choir – 
Tom Brand, Founder & Artistic Director; is New England’s most highly acclaimed girls’ choral program.  Based in New Haven,Connecticut, the Choir has received national recognition, and has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney World, and on CBS Television.  Since its founding in 1993, ECGC has performed with many respected choral ensembles, such as the New York Virtuoso Singers, CONCORA, The American Boychoir, Yale Schola Cantorum, Yale Glee Club, Yale Camerata, Trinity Boys Choir, Newark Boys’ Chorus and Village Harmony, and with professional orchestras including the Boston Philharmonic, New Haven Symphony, Yale Symphony, and Moscow State Orchestra.  In addition, the Choir has been featured at conferences of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and the United Church of Christ Musicians Association.  In September, 2001, ECGC performed God Bless America with Diana Ross at the women’s finals match of the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament.  ECGC has toured through North America and Europe many times and is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary season.
